On June 10, 2026 at 6:00 pm, MuBAq Museo dei Bambini L’Aquila will launch the cultural event Seminiamo Arte – 6th Edition as a part of the program for L’Aquila as Italian Capital of Culture 2026, supported and promoted by L’Aquila City Council. The opening event is adolescĕre, curated by WindMill in collaboration with the Women Visual Artists Database.

adolescĕre draws inspiration from the theme of adolescence, a time of great change in every woman’s life: artists from the Women Visual Artists Database around the world have been invited to reflect on this particular period of their lives, drawing on their own experiences, emotions, mem- ories and personal journeys,

For a young girl, adolescence becomes a sudden journey into the adult world, transforming her physically and psychologically before she has barely had time to fully realise it. The profound trans- formation and vital energy that this period brings create new experiences and opportunities in a girl’s life, a whole series of positive and negative ‘firsts’ that will remain indelibly etched in her memory. The invited artists engage with their own experiences, drawing on their teenage years— and beyond—to find the theme and inspiration for works on paper accompanied by a text.

The collection of works offers an overview of emotions and memories, of inner conflicts, bearing witness to the relationship with one’s own body as it transforms into that of a woman. A deeply moving story of womanhood, told through images and text, in which visitors will be able to recog- nise their own experiences and allow themselves to be drawn in. The exhibition project is designed to ‘travel’ to different cities and countries, featuring talks, performances and interactions with the public, particularly with teenagers. At the end of the exhibition, the works and their accompanying texts will be compiled into an artist’s book, which will be donated to a public institution. The book will also be published in digital format and available to download free of charge from the website of the non-profit Wind Mill Association.

The interdisciplinary festival ‘Seminiamo Arte’ was launched in 2021, at the height of the Covid pandemic, in the post-earthquake village of San Lorenzo, where the residents ‘evicted’ from the medieval hamlet of Fossa still live – 17 years on – and where the MuBAq is located. Still under the direction of Lea Contestabile and Antonio Gasbarrini – with the involvement of art critics and histo- rians, institutions and cultural associations – the festival maintains, for its sixth edition, its success- ful commitment to contemporary art that regenerates a sense of civic identity. This will be achieved through the implementation of cultural initiatives that integrate innovation, urban regeneration and community participation. The result will be an improvement in quality of life. For L’Aquila Capital of Culture 2026, Seminiamo Arte is structured around various projects and sections, including Art and Nature, Art and Spirituality, Public Art, Relational Art, Artist Residencies, Workshops and Labs. These will take place across a variety of venues, including the refurbished garden of the Renais- sance Convent of S. Angelo d’Ocre, the 14th-century cloistered Monastery of S. Basilio, the Botani- cal Garden adjacent to the Convent of the Basilica of S. Maria di Collemaggio, Palazzo Cam-

poneschi and Palazzo Carlo Benedetti, the Convent of Santa Caterina, Palazzo Spaventa, the Palazzetto dei Nobili, the green space adjacent to the Fontana Luminosa, and the One Gallery.

The primary aim of the MuBAq Children’s Museum in L’Aquila is to foster creativity from a very young age, achieving it this by hosting specialised workshops on its premises, as well as at exter- nal venues. It also builds a prestigious international art collection and a sculpture park, and organ- ises exhibitions.
