12 13 I take this opportunity to talk about Giusy Lauriola and her essential nature as an artist. Rarely have I witnessed such a genuine and total fusion between an artist and her artistic pursuit. I encountered Lauriola at a mature stage of her artistic journey, and when analyzing the chronological evolution of her work, one cannot help but notice a fundamental and enduring element: the relentless exploration of a non-place. The transformation of this non-place into a defined space is left to the viewer. Lauriola stops just short of defining it, maintaining a delicate balance within her rarefied atmospheres, suspended between infinite boundaries and moments of waiting. Without an hourglass to measure time, one finds reassurance in the abundant material spread across the canvas and in the resin, her medium of choice. Today, in her approach to painting, there is a profound awareness that does not compromise her continuous exploration of contemporary humanity and its place in the world an unceasing dialogue between the visible and the concealed.
